DANGEROUS PASSION AND PRIMAL INSTINCTS…
With his sinister good looks, Noah Winston is the one man— a human with Casus ties—who Willow Broussard has never been able to resist. Once enemies, then lovers, Noah broke her heart. Yet the powerful witch and paranormal private investigator can’t turn him away when he needs her help in protecting his family, him—and the world—against their enemy…
As Noah and Willow work together, the secrets of their turbulent past are slowly exposed, each startling revelation drawing them closer. But when the enemy finally makes a move, Noah will need more than witchcraft and magic to survive. He’ll need his friends, one hell of a plan…and the undying devotion of a tenacious witch whose love is eternal.
Author Bio:
Rhyannon Byrd first fell in love with the world of paranormal romance as a reader, then tried her hand at writing one of these dark, wickedly sensual tales…and was completely hooked. She lives in England with her husband and two adorable children, spending her days creating provocative romances with her favorite kind of heroes—intense alpha males who cherish their women. When not writing, Rhyannon loves to travel, lose herself in books and catch as many American football games as she can with her loud, fun-loving family.Marketing Copy from Net Galley
I discussed briefly on Thursday last week that it seems like the PNR/UF Adult world centers often on Bars. This final book in Byrd's Primal Instincts series is no exception. In this book we find Noah at a bar he worked at as a team. He's gone back for some help deciphering a section in a book on how to kill "Deathwalkers," a type of Zombie, from a powerful witch he knew growing up. He also knew her niece, Willow and nephew. Willow and Noah would have been an item. But Willow's blood can save the world. Well, auntie can't translate the passages so Noah and Willow set off to find a demon friend of hers. In the travels, their feelings for each other are bound to develop, but there will be misunderstandings, suppositions, lies and a few other things that keep them from hooking up he way Noah wants. Willow still bristles from Noah's defection 12 years earlier.
Getting the passage deciphered they manage to have to fight werewolves, to counter WIllow's sister's spellcasting magic which is helping the Casus (bad guys who inhabit the bodies of people in Noah's family), and their goal is to get rid of all the Casus and all the Deathwalkers.
Byrd is masterful of holding off on the passionate lovemaking until the reader, er, I mean the characters can't stand it anymore. But at the same time, they have to be saving the world from a Casus/Deathwalker apocalypse. Most women can't sleep when they are responsible for saving the world much less experience mind-blowing orgasms. But I guess being witches and fighters they have special gifts. As always,Byrd does a great job with intimacy and it seems she takes care to balance on the fence between medical and yuck. The sex is pretty vanilla.
WIllow is a stubborn and independent warrior path witch who wants to prove her sister, Sienna, isn't working with the bad guys. While there are extenuating circumstances, without Sienna the bad guys would not have gotten away at the end of the last book. Noah is a guy terrified of what will happen to him if the Casus get hold of him and he was also bitten by the bad guy and is now growing fangs.Another important character is Damon a sex-demon friend of Willows. He goes from reluctant totally involved. He has a pain in the ass ex-wife who would love him dead, he cares about friends and he is very loyal.
The book is pretty predictable in the HEA and battles won but it is not without sacrifice. That's the series format. I have a theory that another goal for the books was to pair off all the watchmen. Will Byrd succeed in turning the watchmen into husbands and the Casus into dust? A must read for the series and a recommended read for everyone else.
