Image via WikipediaFriends here in the USA and everywhere: Happy Independence Day. I like to think of this day not as a celebration of a war, or of just this country, but of the spirit and evolution of humanity. I am proud to be a US Citizen, and that my grandparents emigrated here seeking freedom and prosperity but I am not a chauvinist about it. In the case of my Ethnic Greek ancestors from Turkey who fled in the diaspora it was, in reality, freedom from persecution and ethnic cleansing. Then, for my Italian grandparents leaving was very much related to war and economic freedom.So for all citizens of the world who value freedom and self-determination happy Independence day. Whether you have it or it is being sought it deserves some thought and recognition.
