RUN
Shadow and moonlight merge beneath her bare feet,
the forest floor blurring as she flees the dogs and torches. Werewolf, monster -- those are the names given her kind
by the humans who hate them.
HUNT
Kenzie Macleod has spent her whole life hiding what she is,
and she’s not about to open up to any man, even one as
powerfully attractive as wildlife expert Josh Talarkoteen.
But legend says that a Changeling cannot escape the call of
her true mate, even in the wilderness of backcountry Alaska.
MATE
An isolated archeological site, a terrified Changeling cub,
a secretive research center -- as Kenzie and Josh face the
ultimate betrayal, his obsidian eyes promise untold pleasure
and hint at dark secrets of his own . . .
We've been following the MacLeod Clan, their friends and pack for two prior books, Changeling Moon and Changeling Dream in what will surely become a big favorite series in the world of Paranormal Romance. This is the first story focusing on the story of a female wolf changeling, Kenzie.

| Just looking at this photo of Dani makes me feel she has a zest for life |
There are many aspects of Dani's writing I appreciate:
Her characters almost breathe their way off the page and I find them to be very real. They struggle with things but without endless internal monologue. The dialogue, internal or with others is realistic. The men, in general don't posture. Although, in this book one or two do. They're the bad guys though.
Her research is either really good or she is really good at making me think it is. If you have followed my reviews you know I have a thing about research. Geographically, I think it's pretty good. She lives in Alaska. Dunvegan is an actual place in Alberta Province, Canada, (there is also a Dunvegan in Nova Scotia, Canada) and Glennallen, where much of this story occurs is a town in south eastern Alaska. Now whether every street and shop is the same, well I can't speak to that. But it feels realistic. As you can see, the town looks as described and the mountain is right where Kenzie says it is.

I don't know if Dani took the trip up there but at least she checked location on a map. And, while I have no way of knowing whether the tribal information is correct it feels right.
The plot moves quickly as do the characters. There's no getting logged down here.
Good, grammar, word choice and punctuation are always appreciated. Great continuity too. And I love the way her changelings shift. Also, when a native word is used she explains it.
The romance is relationship based as opposed to simply sexual. I think it is especially so in this book and Changeling Dream. In both both books the love interests each had something to handle or overcome inorder to move on. Trope, yes of course it is because it is such a part of being human.
While I like stories with inventive and sometimes super naughty sex, I have found that with out a story where you care about the people it's a bit like a one night stand. Or, as one character in Changeling Dreams calls it, Junk-food sex.
I think the book can stand on its own it's better to read the series.
Because I enjoy this series so much I highly recommend it to all adults who enjoy romance and/or supernaturals in books. I believe you will enjoy it and the series.
