Successful landscape designer Tania Solares prides herself on living by her own terms, relying on no man to provide for her. But her carefully controlled life takes a turn for the extraordinary when her inquiry into the disappearance of her best friend thrusts her between two warring factions of dragon-shifters. Suddenly Tania’s survival depends on Mac, a newly initiated dragon-warrior who will break every rule to keep her safe.
Now that Tania knows the truth about Dragonkind, returning to her old life is too grave a risk. Ivar, leader of the Razorbacks, plots to decimate the human race, and Tania is just the tool he needs. Despite the danger, Mac cannot deny her a choice: Trade the independence she’s fought so hard to achieve for safety in a magical world, or turn her back on the man she’s grown to love in order to reclaim a freedom that might not last? It is an impossible choice. And yet a sacrifice must be made… CoreeneCallahan.com

Coreene has created likable characters and a true villain (let me at him!) in her Dragonfury series and I've enjoyed each of the books immensely. This is the third book in the series, and this one ties up some story arcs that started in the first book. The books are best as a series, but are just as hot and sexy on their own.
Coreene has done a great job building the series from book one when she first introduces the main characters in this story to us. Mac has a very different role here and is certainly a lot more complex than we give him credit for. Tania is complicated and unusual, both as a person and as a heroine. She's stubborn, but her background has made her able to quickly assimilate facts and make changes. While it may seem like her turnaround is sudden it's based on her being pretty quick on her feet and having great intuition.
The plotting is a little expected, but the ways we get from point A to point B are fun and exciting. Like any other art form, in writing an author has to choose what to make different and what to keep familiar. Making something different can make it important. If everything is different from established parameters, the reader may have a hard time maintaining their suspension of disbelief and fail to engage in the story. This is only Coreene's third novel and her first series so I think she has a very sophisticated ability to craft story. One interesting thing is the degree to which the novels are character driven.

There are two factions (at least) of dragons in Dragonkind:

- The heroes
- Led by Bastian
- Mission is to protect humanity
- Live in a Mountain lair and have a butler-elf named Daimler.
Daimler is an awesome cook!

- Live in a complex in the city
Mac, the lead male character in this book is still acclimating to a world that has tipped his life over and upside down. And so, he is in a unique position to understand the problems Tania will face as the same thing happens to her. And, he's as uniquely able to give Tania what she needs in many areas (in the lair, at his hideaway, ...) as she is able to meet his needs. Let's just say they are uniquely suited for each other.
I highly recommend this series and FURY OF SEDUCTION. If dragon shifters are your thing it's a MUST READ.
Come back on Thursday, November 15 when Coreene will be back to tell us how the Nightfyury celebrate the holidays with a recipe from Daimler! Do they have feasts or a tree? Only Coreene knows but she'll share it with us!
