Today's guest is the author of this smash hit new book GRAVE INTENTIONS. Check it out and see my review right here tomorrow!
He’s handsome, reliable, and punctual—the perfect gentleman when you want him to be. But this dream man is Death’s best agent—and now he’s got more than his soul to lose…

One act of mercy before dying was all it took to turn soldier David Anderson into a reaper—an immortal who guides souls-of-untimely-death into the afterlife. But the closer he gets to atoning for his mortal sin and finally escaping merciless Fate, the more he feels his own humanity slipping away for good. Until he encounters Sarah Griffith. This skeptical scientist can’t be influenced by his powers—even though she has an unsuspected talent for sensing the dead. And her honesty and irreverent sense of humor reignite his reason for living—and a passion he can’t afford to feel. Now Fate has summoned David to make a devastating last harvest. And he’ll break every hellishly-strict netherworld rule to save Sarah...and gamble on a choice even an immortal can’t win.  www.lorisjoberg.com

THE STRONG HEROINE

Thanks so much for hosting today’s stop on the tour. I’m thrilled to be here!

I love a strong heroine. One who isn't afraid to face her worst fears, uses her brain to get out of sticky situations, and maybe kicks a little ass in the process. They're the types of heroines I personally want to read about, and they're also the types of heroines I enjoy writing.

The heroine of Grave Intentions, Sarah Griffith, provides for her ailing grandmother while working toward a medical breakthrough with her research. A lifetime skeptic, she doesn’t believe in ghosts, or ghouls, or things that go bump in the night. Imagine her surprise when she learns her next-door neighbor is Death incarnate!

Here are just a few of my favorite strong and/or kickass heroines. It took a bit of work to whittle it down to ten, so make sure to leave a comment and let me know which ones I missed!

Princess Leia

Leia had me at “Aren’t you a little short for a Stormtrooper?” She risked her life, endured torture, blasted Stormtroopers, traded barbs with Han, and helped organize the destruction of the Death Star. All while wearing a couple of Cinnabons on her head.

Jamie Sommers – The Bionic Woman

As a kid, I wanted to be Jamie Sommers. Implanted with cybernetics, she was “better, stronger, faster.” But she was also smart and loyal, with a great sense of humor. She used her intelligence as well as her enhanced strength, speed and hearing to succeed in her missions for the OSI.

Clarice Starling – Silence of the Lambs

In both the book and the movie, Clarice was a smart and tough FBI agent-in-training who refused to be held back in a male dominated field. She kept her wits about her as she went toe-to-toe with Hannibal Lecter and took down Buffalo Bill.

Sarah Connor – Terminator; Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Haunted. Driven. Fierce. I'm still in awe of Linda Hamilton's transformation from mousy waitress to buff, gun-toting warrior bent on saving her son - and the world - from Skynet. Look at those biceps!

Buffy Summers – Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Buffy was the antithesis of the helpless girl who gets slaughtered in every horror movie. Imagine fighting vampires and demons while dealing with high school angst. That alone earns her a spot on the list!

Commander Susan Ivanova – Babylon 5

A latent telepath, Ivanova concealed her abilities while working her way through the ranks of Earth Force. Now a Commander, she’s smart, brave, and loyal with a heightened sense of integrity. But don’t cross her path, or you’ll learn all about her temper!

Dana Scully – The X-Files

Scully was the consummate skeptic, only believing what could be proven through science. She examined each case with a critical eye, searching for a plausible, scientific explanation. She became a believer late in the series, but it took a heck of a lot of convincing!

Aeryn Sun - Farscape

Born in service on board a Command Carrier, Aeryn knew nothing outside her life as a Peacekeeper. It’s only after she’s been “irreversibly contaminated” and on the run from a death sentence that she begins to learn to think for herself. From there, she evolves from a cold, detached soldier to a loyal and valuable crewmember.

Hermoine Granger – Harry Potter

Let’s be honest. She was the brains of the entire series. If it wasn’t for Hermoine, the boys wouldn’t have survived long enough to battle You-Know-Who.

Katniss Everdeen – The Hunger Games

Before taking her sister’s place in the games, she was the glue that held her family together. Resilient, rebellious, and more vulnerable than she realizes, Katniss not only survived the games, she inspired a rebellion.

Some of my favorites there too! Especially the Bionic Woman! Thanks!

About the Author:

Growing up the youngest of three girls, Lori never had control of the remote. (Not that she’s bitter about that. Really. Okay, maybe a little, but it’s not like she’s scarred for life or anything.) That meant a steady diet of science fiction and fantasy. Star Trek, Star Wars, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits – you name it, she watched it. It fed her imagination, and that came in handy when the hormones kicked in and she needed a creative excuse for staying out past curfew.

After graduating from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science, Lori worked for nearly a decade in retail management. When that got boring, she switched to financial planning, and then insurance. The writing bug bit a few years later. After completing her first manuscript, she joined the Romance Writers of America and Central Florida Romance Writers. Now she exercises the analytical half of her brain at work, and the creative half writing paranormal romance. When she’s not doing either one of those, she’s usually spending time with her husband and children of the four-legged variety.
