MY TAKE

This is a fun romance novel with sort of a Chick Lit feel.  There's the usual hot, passionate tearing off of clothing, and hot vanilla action. While the love story is exciting and the intimacy tantalizing (not everyone has to be into handcuffs), what really makes the difference in this story is the sincerity of Rick, the confusion both characters find themselves grappling with and the fierce passion the characters exhibit outside the bedroom.

As is so often the case, poor communication and internal conflicts conspire to keep our love interests separate. Add to that policies disallowing a relationship and you get a romance novel. But, it doesn't become an employment law handbook (thank goodness). That conflict only serves to heighten the unfairness of Sabina's situation and her and Rick's issues too.

I also liked how Jennifer discussed the issues facing women breaking into male-dominated jobs. Having worked as a phone tech in the late 1970s I remember being told how women's changing role in society was the source of all evil in society.

The characters are different and have unusual quirks that pull them out of central casting. I especially found Sabina's friend Vader someone I could see hanging around at the gym. But there are several twists and turns that while hinted at I didn't anticipate.

Much fun, and as hot as the fires the San Gabriel Bachelor Fire Fighters put out.

Part of a series about a fire in San Gabriel in Southern California.  These hot hunks have been the source of a lot of media attention.  Now it's one of the two female fire fighters getting all the attention.
